Did you know someone with ADHD is more likely to burnout faster than a neurotypical?

This isn’t an opinion, it’s a fact.

This makes them seem lazy from another persons perspective. However, what is going on in their mind is the exact opposite. The reason for this is that, someone with ADHD enjoys being productive as it produces a sense of accomplishment, which in turn produces dopamine to the brain- something that the ADHD brain constantly craves.

On the contrary, when someone that has ADHD is ‘lazy’ their mind is racing

Put you hand up if you can relate.

There are definetly methods that can help to overcome this vicious cycle. But the thing with this is that we may remember to implement the technique or method for a few days but then it all goes back to normal. And the cycle starts all over again.

The worst of it is it’s hard to get out of a procrastination cycle when your in one. For example, I remember times where my room was so messy it disgusted me. On the contrast, there were times where my room would be spotless.

So… how can we find the in between? And is that even possible?

How To Find The In Between

As I have mentioned before it’s easy to be hard on yourself. Especially when everything is fine in life and you feel good and then something comes along and unsteadies it all.

You can’t help but think why?

The secret lies in acceptance. We except the good moments, so why not execpt the low moments too. An I’m pretty sure you know what I’m about to say next.

It is easier said than done.

And how truthful those words are, am I right?

Although there is another tip that might just about change your life! By following my Daily checklist of thing to do. (Trust me, this will save your bottom) This checklist will help you when your productivity isn’t so high. By doing a little every day the tasks ( and mess) won’t turn overwhelming.

Right, lets get down to talking about burnout which may be the main cause of all this fuss!

Why Burnout Happens

Burnout usually happens because a person sets a unrealistic standard to what they should achieve. But someone with ADHD may struggle to meet these standards due to lack of motivation – mainly known as procrastination.

‘Normal’ jobs may also keep you pushing past your limit. -And that’s why down time is so important-

Our moods are ever changing. I am more prone to lose the will to be productive when I am feeling down or going through a hard time.

But this is really the worst timing to put being kind and considerate to yourself on the backseat. Rather, what helps is to take care of yourself first and focus on making sure your priorities are met.

And when you do get out of the rut- be proud of yourself that you did!

It’s totally okay to feel defeated when you do burnout but remember, you are absolutely not ‘lazy’ – whatever that word means. It’s okay to rest and to feel tired.
