LISTEN UP
I know you feel like you’ve hit rock bottom.
It’s tough when you feel like you’ve tried everything you possibly can to achieve your goals. And either you don’t meet the time requirement you thought you would reach OR you have given up altogether.
And imma’ be real, it probably has happened to us all at some point.
It’s so common in our society to have expectations, and it’s even more common to try and fit our life into those expectations. And it’s okay to have expectations, as log as they are realistic.
Maybe you thought you’d own a house by 25…
Maybe you thought you’d feel more certain in your career by now…
OR maybe you expected to be further ahead financially.
That’s part of the process — falling, adjusting, learning, and getting back up again
You Are Not Failing
And no, I’m not just saying that to make you feel better and I am most definitely not attempting a TED Talk here. Because you need more than a little motivational speech to get back on track.
However if you find that listening to motivational speeches helps you, go for it.
The down side to these TED talks or any motivational speech is the excitement and initial dopamine will slowly wear off and can get you feeling like you’re a failure all over again.
What you need is the discipline to carry on. Use motivation to get started — but rely on discipline and structure to keep going, such as a schedule.
This helps you become realistic about your goals and see clearly what it will actually take to achieve them.
You’re not failing, you are just not where you want to be RIGHT NOW. But that’s only right now. Which means you’ll get there, you just need to figure out the next steps.
A quote which I really love is ‘ Focus on the next step, not the whole staircase.’
How To Step Away From The ‘Failing’ Mindset
A good way to avoid thinking this way is noticing your small achievements.
You could even try keeping a gratitude journal for a whole month and see if that helps.
In the meantime, take small steps toward where you want to be.
By small, I mean very small.
And once you achieve those small goals, celebrate because you are one step closer to where you want to be! And before you know it you are exactly where you always wanted to be in life.
But don’t forget, whatever it is you want for your future, be content with your now.
Embrace Your Growth
You may not exactly feel like you are growing. But you are!
And how can you be so sure? Let me put it this way…
Growth is uncomfortable for your brain. I’m sure you’ve heard of the expression, ‘Step Outside Of Your Comfort Zone’ before. Why do you think they say that?
Because growth does not happen in the ‘comfort zone’.
So, if you are feeling or have felt either uncertain, confused or behind about where you are right now… Congratulations!!!
It means you most likely have gone out of your comfort zone to get where you are right now.
But the idea is to grow, not to feel overwhelmed!
Grow Without Losing Your Balance
Imagine whatever it is you want to achieve or to have.
Take a good look at where you are RIGHT NOW in life.
And think ‘ What step can I take this week to get me that little bit closer.
It’s as simple as that. And if you want to stay super focused, create a weekly schedule like I mentioned earlier. (This has made the hugest difference for me)
And please try not to do too much at once. The idea is to grow, not burn ourselves out.
Have a little faith. You are building, not failing. And building takes time.
Also feel free to join my WEEKLY Newsletter. I share all sorts on there such as juicy tips or personal life experiences or sometimes even stuff to help keep ya going!
